My comic strip talks about the recent handphone lottery scams which many people have fallen for. The theme is being greedy.
I chose a working man in a suit to show that not only do lowly educated people fall for such scams, but so do people who are educated, and thus it contributes to part of the theme which is prejudice. Also I want to show that being greedy is wrong, and we must always be on our guard to prevent us from being cheated. To know whether it is a scam or not, we should actually think about how they verify their identity, and how they also verify our identity. And if we are only informed through a call, we should already have our guard up.

Edited after comments.

  1. This comic does not contribute to the theme of prejudice. The comic shows a man getting scammed by an unknown phone caller. How is this related to prejudice. All I can infer from the comic is that the man lets his greed overcomes his common sense, resulting in getting conned. He should have, upon answering the call, report this to the police so they can nab the con man. For such an educated man, he lacks a lot of street sense

  2. I feel that what the pictures chosen are very well as the man looks shocked in the starting. However, in the second picture, the man looks more angry than shocked and he looked sad in the following picture. The choice of the characters are too dull though, as they are repeated. You should try to include more movements of the character. I am also quite confused at how the man successfully glued his ear to the handphone but I know that these pictures are hard to find.

Also, there is not a very clear theme stated, so I will assume that it is "We must always remain alert". This theme teaches people alot of things as people nowadays get robbed easily especially teens as they like to show off what they have. But I am not sure how to be alert or how to defend yourself against these kind of phone scams.

  3. I agree with Kaye. Prejudice refers to unreasonable feelings, opinions, or attitudes, especially racially, religiously. However, this comic strip only potrays a man cheated of his money due to his greed. Also, he does not really lose his money to greed because he believed the caller. Therefore, I cannot understand this comic strip.

  4. A. You are to create a comic strip using the web resources available (will be explained later) and you are to plan a storyboard in the format of a comic strip.
Step 1: Select a theme or a message you wish to tell the readers.
Step 2: Think about the plot. How can the plot bring across the message above?
I spelled prize as price also, sorry.

  5. I actually wanted to show that if he was informed through a call only, it would prove that it had a good chance it was a scam. I believe that usually companies would have sent a mail, and call and other verifications, not just a call. Also, I added the processing fee portion to show that if he had really won it, then the processing fee could just be deducted from the prize money itself.
But this from just my point of view, so it might differ between people.
